Hoover Wsahing Machine NOT filling with ENOUGH water

On normal wash cycle (e.g. Rapid Care 44') the machine adds water three separate times. However, once complete the water inside the drum is not visible and does not cover ANY of the door glass. The wash/rinse/spin cycles then complete but clearly the clothes have not been properly washed.

I am having to fill using a watering can into the detergent draw. This is needing an additional 10 litres to bring the water level inside the drum up just past the bottom of the door glass.

I have done the following in order to isolate/correct the issue: * External water feed/source pipe is not blocked. * Rear filter (water in) is not blocked. * Front filter is not blocked (yes, should be nothing to do with this issue but checked regardless). * Detergent tray/compartment/water fill fully removed and then descaled. * Pressure switch replaced with new (this actually was my first action). * Pressure hose and pressure chamber is not blocked, as used a bicycle pump to confirm blow through.

1) Is this a KG Mode software issue? 2) Can my problem be fixed?

This is not a new w/machine and warranty has long expired. HOWEVER, everything else is in good working order and it seems wrong to throw away and fully replace.

Thanks for any guidance, Mark

Hi Mark. On many modern Hoover/Candy machines, especially KG Mode models, the water level can look surprisingly low and often won’t cover much of the door glass. That said, if wash results are clearly poor and adding around 10 litres improves it, there may well be a genuine underfilling fault rather than just “normal low-water washing”.

1. Check whether it is underfilling on every programme Try a Cottons 60 or Cottons 40 cycle with a normal-sized load, not Rapid Care. Fast and eco-type programmes often use very little water by design. If the machine still barely wets the load on a standard cottons wash, that points more towards a fault.

2. Reduce the load size and watch the initial wash KG Mode estimates load size and may reduce water accordingly. If the drum is packed tightly, the machine can sometimes misjudge things. Try a half load of towels or mixed washing and see if the wash action improves.

3. Check the pressure system again very carefully Even if the hose blows through, the pressure chamber can still be partially restricted with gunge and give a false “full” signal too early. This is still one of the commonest causes of underfilling.

4. Inspect the inlet valve operation A weak or partially restricted fill valve can let water in too slowly or not fully. If it fills in three bursts but each is brief, the control may be seeing “full” too soon, or the valve may not be opening properly.

5. Consider control/PCB or sensor issues If the pressure switch is new and the chamber/hose are definitely clear, then yes, a control fault or sensing issue is possible. It’s less likely to be a simple “software issue” you can reset in any useful way.

Please isolate the appliance from the mains before inspecting any internal parts. If you need parts, search by the full model number at the Whitegoods Help Spare Parts Shop. For live electrical diagnosis, I’d recommend a qualified appliance engineer.

SAFETY FIRST: READ BEFORE ACTING ON THIS GUIDANCE

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional. Do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts have sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you are not confident testing or working inside the appliance, stop and call a professional.
