This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Miele W3740 broken drum spider with limited parts availability
- The problem
- The washing machine is a Miele W3740 with a broken 3-arm drum shaft spider described as corroded/broken. The question was whether a spider from another Miele model could be used to repair it.
- Likely cause
- Confirmed fault is a broken drum spider. The discussion also strongly suggests corrosion of the spider and notes that any rebuild would also require bearing seals to avoid water leakage into the bearings. Compatibility with other Miele models was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- No confirmed repair was documented. The accepted reply said Miele parts availability for this type of repair is very limited and that a drum/spider assembly was not found on Miele or third-party spares sites. A donor machine, genuine/compatible part, or made-to-order replacement spider were mentioned only as possibilities, not confirmed solutions. If a new spider were fitted, the drum bearings and seals would also need replacement. Exact repair was not confirmed.
- Checks to try
- Looked for the part on Miele's website
- Looked for the part on third-party spares sites
- Considered whether parts from another Miele model might fit
- Noted that bearings and seals would also need replacement if the spider was changed
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Drum spider
- Bearings
- Bearing seals
- Door seal
- Aquastop fill hose
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hi. As far as I know Miele don’t sell any spare parts apart from a handful of accessories and a few simple parts. I know they don’t on their own website, and I couldn’t find anything on a third party spares site.
Unfortunately, even if they did, the parts would be ludicrously expensive. They charge nearly £200 just for the aquastop fill hose!
I would expect for a drum and spider, bearings and seals it might be £400 or more, though I don’t think they are available. Miele are dead against anyone repairing Miele appliances but themselves and dealers.
Please let me know if you find anything different.

They charge nearly £120 just for a door seal. Insane prices.

If you can't find an affordable genuine, or compatible part, or a second hand donor machine, I did come across a couple of places offering to make a balanced stainless steel spiders to order for any washing machine, while looking for parts when the bearings failed in my Zanussi a few years ago. There was one that quoted reasonable prices including shipping to the UK (they have videos on youtube), but it was based in Ukraine , so I'm not sure how likely it is that they'd still be making washing machine parts, or how long it would take. Fortunately the spider for my machine was still ok.
Thanks MelS. If fitting a new drum spider though, you would definitely need to also replace all of the drum and bearing seals. If they are not available it wouldn't be possible to repair as water would leak into the bearings when reassembled.
