Done it but only changed the position of the front springs...now the drum hangs level and the clunky noise is gone...

I have 3 positions on the back and 2 in the front....in the front they both are in the top. I see if I can do this tomorrow...

Hi. With shorter springs it should hold the drum higher. But if there is more than one way to attach the springs and one way makes the drum a little higher try that.

Could it be that the drum hangs to low? I looked when I came home and now I think that I have to put them lower so the drum lifts up

Yes I have replaced all 4 of them, not easy to do, but I don't want to take the machine apart again

All the new parts are original Miele parts, I called Miele directly and gave them my model number and they found the parts.

I think I'm going to try to put the front 2 springs in the same position and see is the noise will go. I will open her up again today after work and check all the bolts again. I let you know how I get on and will take some pics for you

Hi there. I was just going through a process of elimination, trying to eliminate the simplest thing first. I wouldn't have thought the stretched springs would have caused much trouble to be honest, and it may be that after a year or so those new ones will be similarly stretched. But as long as you have replaced all the springs and not just one, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Presumably you are not confident that the springs were fitted in the correct position in the first place, with it being a second-hand machine. However, if it didn't make this noise before, with the old springs fitted, then presumably they are okay.

If the clunking sound on the left side is coming from the shock absorber, then that is unusual if they are new. As long as they are the correct ones for that machine. With shock absorbers, they may have different ones for each side. Historically, I've seen many suspension dampers and springs that are different strengths and marked with different coloured spots or paint.

Make sure that there isn't a left and right suspension leg. This was because the suspension leg on the side that the drum spins into takes a lot more force than the one on the other side. If you imagine that the drum always spins clockwise from the back then the one on the right takes a lot of punishment compared to the one on the left.

Other than that, it can only look at check-in that it is fitted correctly. Checking that there isn't a crack in the chassis somewhere. And checking that the dampers are genuine Miele spare parts are not cheap copies. Unless you bought it from Miele directly, the chances are that they are not genuine Miele spare parts. This is because Miele, and I don't know how they get away with this, than anybody else selling their spares.

I couldn't guarantee that a nongenuine spare part would be causing this problem though.

I bought this machine together with the tumble-dryer. when i got it the drum was hanging on only 3 springs so i put the spring in the position it came from (I only knew because of the grease) then i decided that it needed new shock absorbers, springs, carbon brushes and door seal

replaced it all and now there is this clunking sound on the left side with the shock absorber only when its an unbalanced spin. when its washing its fine its only the noise that is not right

Yes I did...when I put them back in the noise was worse.....and didn't know which came from where

The old springs were very stretched...I have a pic of them but was not able to upload it....the noise comes from the shock absorber on the left side if you stood in front of the machine

Hi there. I would have to say that the springs should go in the exact same position that they were fitted in the first place. If they are fitted in the same position they were before and making a strange new noise and something is obviously not right. The first thing I would do is put the old ones back on. I struggle to imagine what could possibly have gone wrong with one of the springs, they are usually extremely strong on the Miele washing machine.

Also see if you can identify where the noise is coming from. Is it for example, the drum pulley at the back catching on the back panel? That would indicate that the drum is leaning backwards instead of being held centrally.

All the spring are the same...I ordered them from miele. The machine works perfectly its only the noise when it spins that it not used to to before....that why I want to know if the springs are in the right position as I put the new ones in the position of the old ones
