heater element issue

Hi I ordered a replacement heater element for my hotpoint washing machine and its slightly longer(2cm) than the original is that an issue if I fit it?

Hi. It sounds like it is the wrong heater. It should be exactly the same. Usually they fit into a holding bracket so it may physically not fit. If it physically fits it could be OK as long as the electrical wattage it uses is the same. But it might be better to send it back and get the right one.

Hi. Live (brown) goes to one and and neutral (blue) to the other, with earth in the middle.

The wires are usually secured in the harness in such a way that it would be difficult to swap them around, but it doesn't actually matter which way round the live and neutral go.

It should be obvious which way they went as the wires will naturally line up.

Hi Its same wattage and looks a similar width to old one so I think it should fit. My old one had a terminal labelled green (which the brown wire was attached to) and a white terminal (which blue wire was attached to) . The new one is not colour coded. Which ends do the blue and brown wires attach to? See photo
