Clothes Smell

Hi there,

I rent a place with a washing machine which is a Hoover HW 120M. The machine has two hoses blue and red which are screwd into a Y connector and then in to a single cold water tap on the wall. We have a combi boiler that heats our water. The problem is that our clothes are not coming out clean, socks still smell a bit, underarms still smell of deodrant and often the load smells like wee (that old water smell).

We have tried:

Removing clothes as soon as the cycle is complete.

Half filling the drum

Full filling of the drum

Washing at higher temp

Using softener

Using less detergent (now using 2 or 1 Bio Ariel tablets in the drawer).

Using more detergent

Using calgon an empty 60 degree wash

Leaving the door and draw open.

Drying our clothes in an airy place (window open etc)

I want to ask my landlord to either dispose of it so we can buy a new one or replace it with a new one, but as it works to look at i'm not sure what to do?

If anyone has a suggestion that would be great (even if it's a tip to "send it to Washing machine heaven"??)

Thanks

It sounds like you've tried almost everything. There is a general guide covering this topic here - washing isn't coming out clean which you should double check. I would especially check the last point mentioned as a partially blocked pump filter would explain poor washing and rinsing.

Another possibility is if the washing machine or the plumbing is smelly then smells could be transferred inside the washing machine - Washing machine smells (Various possible causes of washing machine smells)

This wouldn't cause any problems at all. It's just effectively turned the machine into a cold fill washing machine. The only effect would be that it will take a little longer to wash on some washes but should if anything wash better because of the extra wash time.

thank's for your help!

Do you think the fact that the two hoses from the machine are plugged in to the Y connector and in turn to a single cold water outlet?

Thanks
