This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Point WM52 leaving black marks on clothes
- The problem
- A Point WM52 washing machine was reported to be leaving black marks on laundry. Running Calgon through on a boil wash and having the filter checked did not cure it.
- Likely cause
- Most strongly supported diagnosis is worn drum bearings and a failed bearing seal, if the machine is also noisy on spin. The discussion also suggests black mould on the door seal as another possible source. The exact cause was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- Recommended action was to check whether the machine is noisy on spin and inspect the door seal for black mould. If noisy spin is present, the likely repair is replacement of the drum bearings and bearing seal. The thread was marked solved, but no final confirmation of the exact fault or completed repair was provided.
- Checks to try
- Ran Calgon through on a boil wash
- Filter checked
- Check if the machine is noisy on spin
- Inspect the door seal for black mould
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Drum bearings
- Bearing seal
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

If the washing machine is noisy on spin then drum bearings could be the issue as blueboy2001 mentions. If the door seal is covered in black mould maybe it could be the problem.
There are some general points worth looking at in these links -
Washing isn't coming out clean or has marks on it (Last article at bottom of page)
Whites coming out of washing machine looking grey, coloureds losing their colour
Grease marks or spots on laundry
White streaks or residual washing powder after washing
Washing not getting clean

The most likely cause is that the rubber bearing seal has failed. This allows water into the bearings which will wash the grease out and it gets drawn into the tub and onto the clothes.
You will really need to have the bearings and seal replaced. This is quite a big job - at least 2 hours labour for a pro and all day of a job for a DIY'er with the correct tools.
