Zanussi Fla1002W Aquacycle 1000 -Drum Stopped Spinning

Hi, newbie here..... Was washing some towels tonight in my 11 year old washing machine, and near the end of the spin cycle the machine made some grinding noises, then the drum stopped spinning. After reading these forums I tried to troubleshoot a little bit -first putting a soggy towel (just one) in the drum and started the spin cycle. But again, the drum didn't move. After switching it off, I checked the drum movement by hand, and it does rotate but there is a slight resistance compared to when i have spun it round previously to check for the odd sock for instance. I could have put too much in the drum to start with, or else something has worn down. Any suggestions would be welcome. Cheers, Andy.

It sounds like something could be stuck inside the drum. Take off the belt at the back to make sure you are only turning the drum as currently you are also turning the motor and theoretically it's possible for the motor to be the problem. It's also possible that the belt has come off and is tangled around the drum pulley at the back.

This article may help - how to remove something stuck in the drum although it's only a few tips to try and avoid stripping it down.

Thanks for the update, normally when the belt comes off the drum spins much freer by hand but it sounds like it got tangled up in the drum pulley which accounts for the strange resistance.

thanks for the reply. It was the belt - it had worn down completely and had split too. I was a bit unsure of taking the machine apart so I got a qualified engineer to fix the problem. It cost me, but at least i didn't have to worry about breaking something thru inexperience. As the engineer said, there's life in the ol girl yet. Didn't fancy forking out for a new machine, although I'll have to sooner or later....Thanks for sharing your experience on your great website!

The article can help remove any object not just bra wires Belt is at the back. Just take back panel off or if there isn't one you'd have to try looking down with the lid taken off (and machine disconnected).

thanks for the reply. I don't wear a bra so i doubt if that's the cause of the drum not turning. It could be the belt though - is that difficult to get to do you think?
