Lg Washer Dryer F1480Rd - Hot Smell And Cycle Stopping Early?
Hi everyone!
- I've an LG Washer Dryer, model F1480RD - Recently it started to stop mid-way through the drying cycle... it simply ends the selected programme before everything is dry, so we have to put it on twice to dry clothes, which is fine but with a newborn in the house, it's a bit annoying!
It smells pretty hot too...
So I took the top off, and unscrewed the cover for the heating element, and scraped out a big wad of fluff from the edges etc, but it's still stopping early. Also, I took a photo of the cover (both while on, and off so you can see the inside and outside) - it looks pretty burnt. Is that normal? Is it dangerous??
It seems to be washg clothes fine... Any advice very welcome!
Thank you
Will

Hi Willy. I would suspect the dryer fan. It looks as if it's been overheating and cutting out. Continuing to use it in these conditions is dangerous because if the fail-safe cutout system were to fail there is the potential for a fire. When the washer is running a drying cycle, can you see the dryer fan running? This should blow the air over the heating element and into the drum. Also check any filters.

Thanks again... Will take a look... Cheers
Yes, you need to check if the fan is running and if it has a visible fan at the end that the fan blades are ok. You might be able to hear if the fan is running as a rough guide though.

Thank you - Is by taking the top off the only way to see if the fan is running, or can you tell without having the top off? I've not run it while the top is off... But I have checked the filters and they seem clear. Thanks again!
