Can't Use Lg Wd-12331Ad Washer Dryer On Dryer Programme

Help please ?

I have just acquired from my daughter (who has just installed a built under washer/dryer in a newly re fitted kitchen) an approximately 1 year old LG WD-12331 AD washer dryer.

Having scoured the manual, it appears the dryer only works on the synthetic and cotton wash cycles. This is not a problem, but what seems to be a serious omission is the ability to use the dryer, without going through an entire wash cycle. Several times, because I have wanted to dry clothes a bit more than on an automatic programme, I have ended up going through an entire wash cycle a second time - really annoying and time consuming also, not at all enviromentally friendly!

Does anyone know of a workaround to the above please?

Does the instruction book say you can't use the dryer separately? Normally you can use the dryer by setting the main selector dial to dry (or even the off position after a main spin cycle) and setting a time on the dryer controls -or if it's got digital controls there's normally still a setting for drying.

It sounds like it may well be designed to only work after a wash programme. Older washer dryers used to allow the dryer to work independently after any programme had finished. I'm thinking of the old Hoover washer dryers with mechanical controls. As soon as the wash programmer finished it went onto a dot on the dial and this position supplied power to the dryer's timer, which if set to a time automatically started the dryer.

These days the programme controls are more sophisticated and few use mechanical timers. If you could use the dryer separately I would think it should be mentioned in the instruction book.

Hi Andy and thanks for your post,

The instruction manual does not state that the dryer cannot be used alone, however there is no position on the main rotary dial for drying only.

There is a separate 'Dryer' switch which when pressed repeatedly, cycles through various different drying times/temperatures however, this Dryer button is only active if the Synthetic or Cotton wash programmes have been chosen on the main rotary dial first, hence going through the complete wash cycle again.

Have tried using Dryer button only with or without main power switch on, also tried it on every position of rotary dial, however, still believe I must be missing something cos I simply cannot believe it is not possible to use the dryer only!
