Candy Spins On One Cycle But Not Another
The Candy washing machine which is in our apartment in France gives a satisfactory final spin on the short programme but leaves water in the drum on the longer one. Have checked the filter which is OK. Any pointers gratefully received.

Candy washer spins on short programme but leaves water in drum on longer cycle
- The problem
- A Candy washing machine completes a satisfactory final spin on the short programme, but on a longer programme it leaves water in the drum. The filter had already been checked and was reported clear.
- Likely cause
- Most likely a partial blockage in the drain path, causing the machine to pump out too slowly. The accepted reply also mentioned a possible pump fault if the machine reaches full spin speed but still does not extract water properly, though this was described as less likely.
- What fixed it
- Check the drain hose connection and the drain outlet for restrictions, especially if the hose is connected to a sink U-bend spigot. Inspect for small obstructions in the hose and at the spigot. If no blockage is found and the symptom remains, further diagnosis of the drain system or pump would be needed. The exact repair was not confirmed in the discussion.
- Checks to try
- Filter checked and reported OK
- Check whether the drain hose is connected to a U-bend under the sink
- Check for small obstructions inside the drain hose
- Check for obstructions inside the spigot where the hose connects
- Observe whether the machine spins up to full spin speed but still does not remove water properly
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

The only thing I can think of is that the water isn't being pumped out fast enough. Therefore I would suspect a partial blockage. The filter is the first place to look, but as you haven't found anything it means that either there is a partial blockage somewhere else or it is nothing to do with a partial blockage.
At first it seems bizarre that it would dry okay on short spin but leave water on the long spin when it has obviously had much longer to pump away any water. But potentially as the shorter spin doesn't remove anywhere near as much water the machine may be managing to get that water away, whereas on the longer spin where a lot more water is extracted it can't cope.
The first thing I would check is whether the drain hose is attached to a connection on the U bend under the sink. If it is you need to unconnect it and check for small obstructions inside the hose and inside the spigot that the hose connects to.
Failing that if it seems to be spinning up to full spin speed but it's just not extracting the water properly it can only be because of either a faulty pump (which is rare because they are usually either working or not) or there is something in the system somewhere which is restricting the flow of water out through to the drain.
You may need to check this article which covers trying to find a blockage when you checked the filter and it is clear - can’t find a blockage but washing machine still not draining properly

Thanks - that is most helpful. We are going down next week so will be able to check what you have suggested. My french is OK but I don't think I could explain the problem in french over the 'phone to a repair man!
