Candy Spins On One Cycle But Not Another

The Candy washing machine which is in our apartment in France gives a satisfactory final spin on the short programme but leaves water in the drum on the longer one. Have checked the filter which is OK. Any pointers gratefully received.

The only thing I can think of is that the water isn't being pumped out fast enough. Therefore I would suspect a partial blockage. The filter is the first place to look, but as you haven't found anything it means that either there is a partial blockage somewhere else or it is nothing to do with a partial blockage.

At first it seems bizarre that it would dry okay on short spin but leave water on the long spin when it has obviously had much longer to pump away any water. But potentially as the shorter spin doesn't remove anywhere near as much water the machine may be managing to get that water away, whereas on the longer spin where a lot more water is extracted it can't cope.

The first thing I would check is whether the drain hose is attached to a connection on the U bend under the sink. If it is you need to unconnect it and check for small obstructions inside the hose and inside the spigot that the hose connects to.

Failing that if it seems to be spinning up to full spin speed but it's just not extracting the water properly it can only be because of either a faulty pump (which is rare because they are usually either working or not) or there is something in the system somewhere which is restricting the flow of water out through to the drain.

You may need to check this article which covers trying to find a blockage when you checked the filter and it is clear - can’t find a blockage but washing machine still not draining properly

Thanks - that is most helpful. We are going down next week so will be able to check what you have suggested. My french is OK but I don't think I could explain the problem in french over the 'phone to a repair man!
