Hoover Dyn8144D/l-80 Banging Before Spin

Especially loud on a light load, sounds like the drum or something is hitting the casing....usually refuses to spin on light load.

Could this be the shock absorbers?

I tried to remove what looked to be the worst of the two as moving the drum showed a lot of up and down movement on it....I could only free the bottom securing pin but once I did I could easily slide the inner metal tube up and down within the plastic outer housing tube, I'm guessing this isn't normal and that some resistance should be there to act as a damper?

Top weight is secure and from what I can see/feel so is front weight, both drum holder springs are attached and in good order. No grinding whe turning the drum.

Advice appreciated please.

Yes the dampers these days are quite unsophisticated but there should be resistance, they are supposed to restrict movement of the tub. It's difficult to convey the exact amount of restriction, they shouldn't be too stiff, but not too free either. Ideally if you compare them all you might see one is particularly bad. Be careful in case they have different strengths for different sides of the suspension. Suspension springs used to be stronger on the side that the tub bounced on during spin. To find out, check the spare parts on my spares site here to see if they list left and right suspension dampers,

Hello,

4Washerhelp have confirmed that the part I found is compatible with my machine...I've just placed an order.

Thank you for your help, great site and service from 4Washerhelp.

Cheers

Hello, no, never turn a washing machine upside down. Lay it on its front or back. The "models this part is compatible with" doesn't recognise your model so combined with the fact they look different I would send a parts request in at 4Washerhelp where you can be assured you will get the right part.

Thank you for the reply.

The only damper I could free off had zero resistance....the inner tube slid up and down as if nothing was there.

I found the following part which I think is compatible but doesn't look exactly the same, are you able to confirm please? http://www.4washerhelp.co.uk/v-damper-service-kit/product.pl?pid=1465936&query=Dyn8144+suspension

Also in terms of fitting these access is very poor from the rear....is it usual to stand the machine upside down to gain better access from the bottom panel?....I think I read this somewhere but don't want to do any damage to the machine.

Regards

George
