Hotpoint WMF560P UK R - programme dial not working

Hello,

My Hotpoint WMF560P UK R washing machine programme knob has suddenly stopped working. The knob isn't broken as it still goes round but it no longer clicks to select a programme and annoyingly has got stuck on a programme that isn't much use. I've taken the washing machine apart but can't see anything obvious wrong with the knob. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Will replacing the knob solve my issue?Or is there any way of getting it stuck on the programme I need? We're planning to get a new washing machine once some building work is completed in about 3 months so it would be great if we could get this working for now to see us through.

Thank you in advance for any help that anyone can give.

Solution Summary

AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Hotpoint WMF560P UK R programme selector knob turns but no longer selects cycles

The problem
The washing machine's programme knob still rotates but no longer clicks to select programmes, leaving the machine stuck on an unwanted setting. The user had already removed panels and could not see any obvious damage to the knob.
Likely cause
Most likely either the control knob is jammed/faulty or the programme selector mechanism behind it is not turning correctly. The accepted reply says if the selector itself is at fault, it will need replacing.
What fixed it
Remove the programme selector from the control panel and take off the control knob to determine whether the fault is in the knob or in the selector it drives. Replace the programme selector if that component is found to be faulty. The discussion does not confirm whether replacing the knob alone would solve it.
Checks to try
  • Removed panels and visually checked the knob area with no obvious fault seen
  • Advised to remove the programme selector from the control panel
  • Advised to remove the control knob and check whether the knob or the selector is jammed
Parts or tools mentioned
  • Programme selector
  • Control knob

The first thing to do would be to remove the program Selector from the control panel and take off the control knob to see whether it is the actual knob itself that is jammed, or the control selector that it is supposed to turn. If it is the selector then it will need replacing.
