Waterproof System. in the Miele W19 wps Washing Machine
Can this be safely removed and replaced with a regular hose? Miele are very reluctant to countenance this but will not provide me with technical information without a call out. Will its removal (and replacement as indicated) actually affect the working of the machine or just remove the flooding protection ?
The flooding issue is a none issue for me but I suspect the box is clogged and slowing the inflow rate and so need to test the machine with water directly from the mains
EDIT: Yes I have done a search for Waterproof System on this site

Miele W19 WPS query about replacing Waterproof System hose
- The problem
- The owner asked whether the Miele W19 WPS Waterproof System hose/box could be removed and replaced with a standard inlet hose, as they suspected the unit might be restricting water flow. They also asked whether doing so would affect machine operation or only remove flood protection.
- Likely cause
- The accepted reply indicates the key factor is whether the flood-proof/aqua stop hose is integral to the machine. If the hose has wires going into the washing machine, it is part of the machine system and cannot be replaced with a normal hose. If it disconnects independently at both the tap and the machine, a normal hose would work, but this would remove the original flood-protection arrangement.
- What fixed it
- Recommended action was to identify whether the Waterproof System hose is a wired, integral type or a separately connected hose. A standard hose was only said to be suitable if the existing hose unscrews independently from both the tap and the washing machine. No confirmed repair or test result was posted.
- Checks to try
- Check whether the hose has wires going into the washing machine
- Check whether the hose unscrews independently from the tap and the washing machine
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Standard inlet hose
Safety: Do not bypass safety systems unless the appliance design clearly allows the part to be replaced in that form. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hello geordief. I have an article about flood-proof hoses under Aqua stop hoses which is a more common name for them. Basically if the hose has wires that go into the washing machine it's integral to the machine and can't be replaced. If it unscrews from the tap and the washing machine independently then a normal hose would work. Read all about them here Aqua stop hoses for washing machines & dishwashers
