Hello.

I was wondering if somebody can help. We have a Miele t7944c honeycombe care tumble dryer.

All of the settings bar 2 , works for 1 minute and the the display goes to "0" as if the cycle is finished. But is hasn't it's only been on for 1 minute.

There are 2 cycles that work and that is the 4 minute cycle for "wool delicates" and that seems to work fine and heat up. The 15 minute cycle sometimes goes for the full 15 minutes but usually doesn't.

I have checked all the filters and cleaned them of any fluff removed the rear panel and cleaned there.

i have been reading up and maybe it's a sensor? But don't want to be replacing parts if I don't need to.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

It does sound more like a sensing/control issue than a heating fault, especially as the timed short programmes can still run and the dryer does heat.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the dryer from the mains. If it needs electrical testing or strip-down beyond simple cleaning, use a qualified engineer.

A few sensible checks to narrow it down:

1. Check which programmes fail If the auto sensor programmes stop after a minute but timed programmes are more reliable, that strongly points to the moisture sensing circuit rather than the heater.

2. Clean the moisture sensors properly On Miele dryers the moisture sensors are usually the two metal strips inside the drum area, often near the door opening or drum ribs. Clean them with white vinegar or a mild abrasive cleaner on a cloth. Fabric conditioner residue can insulate them and make the machine think the load is already dry.

3. Try a proper test load Run an automatic programme with a medium-sized load of damp cottons, not just a few items. If the load is too small or too dry, some dryers will end early. If it still drops to “0” in about a minute, that’s useful confirmation.

4. Check airflow again Even if filters look clean, make sure the condenser/air passages are clear and the fan is moving air properly. Poor airflow can confuse drying performance, though it usually causes long drying rather than instant finish.

5. Possible wiring or electronic fault If sensor cleaning makes no difference, the fault could be with the sensor wiring, earth path through the drum, or the control board reading the sensors incorrectly.

Given the symptoms, I’d start with the moisture sensor strips and a test with wet towels. If that doesn’t change it, it likely needs proper diagnosis rather than guessing parts.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
