Query about preferred detergent for a Miele washing machine

The problem
The user asked whether there is a better detergent, or one preferred by Miele, while currently using Bold Lavender and Chamomile with additional Lenor fabric conditioner.
Likely cause
No appliance fault was discussed. The accepted reply suggested that detergents with built-in softener are likely a marketing gimmick rather than a better washing option.
What fixed it
The accepted advice was that a separate detergent and a separate fabric conditioner are preferable to a detergent with built-in softener, because detergent should wash and rinse out, while conditioner is intended to be added on the final rinse and remain in the fabrics. No Miele-specific detergent recommendation was confirmed.
Checks to try
  • Current products in use were identified as Bold Lavender and Chamomile and Lenor Sleep Sensations fabric conditioner.

I think detergents with built in softener are a gimmick, a new product designed to create new sales that weren’t there before. The bizarre thing is that the companies making them probably also sell separate fabric conditioner. I presume they are aimed at people who don't use fabric conditioner, in which case they are probably better than not using anything at all.

I don’t like products that try to do too many different jobs, especially if those jobs are quite different. Washing detergent needs to dissolve in the first wash water, do its job, and then get rinsed out through several rinses. You don’t want any detergent left on the laundry at the end of the wash programme. Fabric conditioner needs to go into the clothes and not get rinsed away, which is why it should go in on the very last rinse.

I don’t know how these combined detergents work exactly, but I can’t see how they can be better than a dedicated fabric conditioner put in on the last rinse.
