LG circulation pump
Hi All,
I have an LG direct drive steam washing machine. It is making noises that would indicate the circulation pump is at fault.
I have contacted a local repair man, who insists he can disconnect this pump, stop the noise, and save me money. I’m obviously wary of his, as surely it wouldn’t have a recirculating pump if it didn’t need it?
Can anyone help me out, would disconnecting it stop th steam function from working? He said to me, do you use it? “No” and insinuated I don’t need the function anyway
what should I do? I feel stuck as I know nothing about washing machines!!
many thanks
Ann

AI-generated from this discussion
This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
LG washing machine noisy circulation pump; disconnecting it may reduce wash performance
- The problem
- An LG direct drive steam washing machine was reported to be making noise consistent with a faulty circulation pump. The owner asked whether disconnecting the pump would stop the steam function or otherwise be acceptable.
- Likely cause
- The strongest supported diagnosis in the discussion is a noisy or faulty circulation pump. The accepted reply states the pump is used to shower laundry with water during wash and rinses so the machine can work with less water.
- What fixed it
- The accepted advice was that the machine would theoretically still run with the circulation pump disconnected, but washing and rinsing performance would likely be adversely affected. There was no confirmed repair or test result, and no confirmation that the steam function would or would not be affected.
- Checks to try
- Reported noise said to indicate the circulation pump is at fault
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

I’ve not heard of anyone doing this but theoretically the washing machine would still work. The circulation pump is there to compensate for the washing machine using less water. It showers the laundry with water on wash and rinses to help wet them more in less water
Therefore I would expect the quality of washing and rinsing to be adversely affected without it.
