Built In Scales
Wouldn't it be useful for a high end machine to have a built in scale that can measure the weight of the laundry e.g. 3kg for Express Wash.
So you would know the weight limitations for each program and load optimally as you view the weight on an LCD as you are loading the drum.

Some washing machines do "measure" the weight of the load, but it's only after the drum has started turning. They can do this by measuring the strain on the motor while turning the load, they can use it to calculate what weight the drum contains. This information is then used to alter the amount of water required and make other adjustments.

Thanks, I see what the Miele spec sheet means now, they didn't elaborate on it. I also downloaded the instruction manuals (me sad)
and found that some models do it by +/- 25% increments, which is a fairly coarse scale, but as admin points out the bashing about in spin cycle probably doesn't allow installation of a finer graduation scale like +/-100g which would be completely ace.
However as I've saved £250 from upgrading to the next Miele that does what you say, I might invest in a pair of scales to weigh the laundry before loading up which gives +/- 5 grams accuracy
Would be also nice like on a dishwasher where you have a salt/Calgon tank to soften the water, a softner tank (instead of a rinse agent one) to automagically dispense the correct doses - but I guess there is no more room, as somebody would have done it by now.
The top mega expensive miele has liquid detergent dispensing I believe, but not on affordable machines.
Though each added function probably adds to the cost, and makes it harder to make a reliable machine.
My W4446 has a load/detergent button that tells me, as a percentage, the size of the load and how much detergent I need. I find this one of the most useful features of the machine.
