Error Code E03

Error Code E03

We keep getting an E03 code, and we have checked for blockages in the filter, drain pump and drainage pipe. If the washing machine isn't used for a few days, it works perfectly fine for the next wash, and then on the second wash we will get E03. Any suggestions gratefully recieved!

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Hoover DYN 8144 DIX showing intermittent E03 drain fault

The problem
A Hoover DYN 8144 DIX 8 kg washing machine intermittently shows error code E03. The filter, drain pump and drainage pipe were checked for blockages. The machine may work after standing unused for a few days, but the fault tends to appear on the second wash.
Likely cause
Most likely an intermittent drain-related issue. The discussion suggests either incomplete draining due to a partial blockage, or a fault in the system that detects whether the water has pumped out, such as the pressure system.
What fixed it
Recommended action was to confirm what happens when E03 appears: whether water has actually failed to drain, or whether the machine has drained but is falsely reporting a drain fault. If water remains, a partial blockage was considered the strongest explanation. No exact repair was confirmed in the thread.
Checks to try
  • Checked filter for blockages
  • Checked drain pump for blockages
  • Checked drainage pipe for blockages
  • Observe during the fault whether the drum has actually emptied water or not

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

It is a Hoover DYN 8144 DIX 8 kg has been in use just under 18 months. Not even used every day in fact only twice a week. Annoying thing is it works perfectly sometimes.

Hello,

E03 might be referring to a drain fault. However, it's important to realise that errors like that can be triggered by the washing machine detecting the water hasn't pumped out properly - OR by a fault on the system that detects this. In other words when the fault occurs you need to establish whether the washing machine has not emptied the water out or whether it has, but it just thinks it hasn't. The latter can be caused by pressure system faults and blockages.

With it being intermittent, usually after a second wash, it might be a partial blockage. If you can see it hasn't drained the water out properly when the error occurs but can't find a blockage try this article Can’t Find a Blockage But Washing Machine Still Not Draining
