Original Or New Improved Miele Design?

Miele have two designs of machine. One I call the "New Improved". The second "Original".

What design do you prefer?

For me I don't think I can never tire of the Original design and this would sway me to a machine in this style over the new lineup.

It's the polishable chrome of even shape and classic control fascia with the illuminated "orange eclipse" control knob that melts my heart every time!

It doesn't make sense to produce two different designs indefinitely although I would suspect most potential Miele customers' opinions could be polorized on which one is best. However, the Free 10 Year Cover promotion is going to be offered on the new style W4000 series from 1st March - 31st May 2007

According to my sources, Miele will, "continue to produce the chrome portholed 'classic-look' machines alongside the others for those customers who prefer that look."

I like the new look, if it wasn't for the over heavy 'bezel' of a door

I think there is a market for both.

the new model 'I think' has a higher port hole for easier loading and unloading (if you look the control panel on the new model is condensed in height utilising the 'worktop' height too - unless it's an optical illusion). Consequently the drainage filter door is mounted slightly higher up too, meaning a deeper container can be put to good use.

Doooh... I have to agree with the polishable chrome piece, it's the same as the three pointy star on my car bonnet, and I presume the Flying Lady on a Rolls Royce, you'll just gonna have to polish her

However, some new ones do seem to have a metal door as well

I guess if you have a girl around and you failed to impress with the audiophile gear, the meal, or the Honda R-Type on the drive..

I like them both, but am attracted slightly more to what I like to call the Classic design. I find its old fashioned look reassuring. I think Miele were probably wise to create a more modern look although they do look a little less well built (they look better in the metal so to speak). The modern look has more plastic than chrome but plastic isn't poor quality per se (it can even be stronger than steel if required). It's possible (even probable) that the modern look Miele was designed to not only appear more modern but to be a bit cheaper to produce. Not even Miele are immune from having to keep a check on production costs. As far as I'm aware though there haven't been any significant reductions in quality, and I hope to find out for sure soon.

Is it a coincidence that all the machines with the 10yr warranty are of the traditional design?

A move to sell their older stock and concentrate on the newer design?
