Is there a pump filter on my Samsung washing machine? When clothes are done washing they have specks of dirt and debris on them. So I was wondering if the Samsung washers have some sort of filter. Thanks for any help.

Laundry coming out with dirt specks; pump filter query on Samsung washer

The problem
The washer was leaving clothes with specks of dirt and debris after the wash. The question was whether the Samsung washing machine has a pump filter that could be causing it.
Likely cause
A pump filter may exist, usually at the lower front of the machine or behind the kick strip, but the accepted reply says the pump filter’s main role is to stop objects reaching the pump. The debris on laundry was not strongly linked to the pump filter. A heavily clogged filter might affect rinsing, but this was described as unusual and likely to be accompanied by an error code or other malfunction.
What fixed it
Check whether the machine has a pump filter and consult the instruction manual for its location. The accepted advice indicates the poor cleaning/debris issue is probably due to another fault or wash-performance issue rather than the pump filter itself. The exact repair was not confirmed.
Checks to try
  • Checked whether a pump filter is present at the bottom left or right of the front panel
  • Checked whether the filter is behind the kick strip
  • Consulted the instruction manual for filter location
  • Noted whether any error code or other malfunction was present

It's unusual for a washing machine not to have a pump filter these days, but they are normally easily visible at the bottom left (or occasionally right) of the washing machine. Right where your foot would be if you stood really close to the front. Sometimes they may be behind the kick strip. It will tell you in the instruction manual if you have one. If not, you should be able to download a manual from this page Washing machine instruction manuals

However, after saying all that, the function of the pump filter is only to prevent obstructions from getting inside the water pump. If your laundry is coming out not properly cleaned, and with bits on them then something else is not quite right.

It is possible that some pump filters could end up being clogged up enough to prevent efficient rinsing of the laundry, and that could affect the quality of the wash. But this would be unusual, because if a washing machine's pump filter is blocked up enough to cause issues with the wash cycle, it is also likely to trigger an error code, or exhibit some other malfunction.
