Hotpoint WML520 Aquarius Washing Machine

I recently opened this machine with a view to replacing the bearings only to discover that it has a sealed drum so the bearings can't be replaced . However I can probably get an other year out of it as the bearings don't sound too rough. My problem is when reassembling the machine I forgot to take note of the connections to the heater and am left with one cable which does not seem to fit anywhere, any ideas? I am pretty sure the two connected wires on the left were connected to the lefthand terminal but now I can't see how they connect.?

Hi there. If all these wires fitted onto the heater, then all three of the Earth wires should connect together to the back of the silver plate and the heating element. They usually use a piggyback amp tag which allows the connection of two separate wires to the same tag.

I was wondering about that too, although the double earth looks like it is secured into the wiring harness in such a way that it points upwards towards the heater.

It looks as off the single wire may more easily run down to the motor. Theoretically it shouldn’t make any difference as all earth wires are ultimately connected together?

However, it’s important to get it right because if an earth wire is rerouted incorrectly it could be subject to being yanked off when the drum bounces around. Make sure that can’t happen to either earth wire.

I might be wrong on this but I think the double green & yellow earth wire should be on terminal of the heater plate and the single wire green & yellow on a earth terminal on the motor itself to earth the wash motor

I realised the I had forgotten about the earth connection to the Motor. So all sorted now and working perfectly. Many thanks for your help. Great forum.

Thank you Andy, I had a feeling there was a piggyback clip It is probably on the floor somewhere. You are right all the earth wires should go to the earth tag on the heater, centre tag,

If you connect the green and yellow wire to the left terminal it will instantly blow the fuse and probably your PCB too.

Are you sure that all of these wires were connected to the heating element? If the motor is secured to a plastic drum then the motor may need an earth wire too. It's just that heating elements usually only have one earth wire. However, it is possible that the earth connection on the heating element is used to link earth connections to one or more other parts.

Always take photos before touching anything. It's so easy with modern phones 🙂
