Bosch 1400rpm (2009) door won't open
When trying to open the door the catch gave way but door didn't open. I waited as usual on the end of cycle time delay before opening. The door catch isn't broken but won't push back into position. The door opening mechanism is exposed but what do I do to get it open

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Bosch 1400rpm (2009) washing machine door would not open after cycle
- The problem
- After the cycle finished and the normal delay had been observed, the door would not open. The handle/catch had given way, leaving the door-opening mechanism exposed, and the catch would not spring back into position.
- Likely cause
- The discussion supports a failed or disconnected door-handle mechanism, leaving the user unable to operate the latch in the normal way. An internal emergency release was suggested by one reply, but this was then doubted for this machine, so it was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- Use the exposed door-opening mechanism directly by moving the plastic actuator that the handle normally operates, pushing or pulling it against spring tension. A tool may be needed to provide leverage. A separate suggestion mentioned an emergency release behind the bottom-right flap, but this was not confirmed for this Bosch.
- Checks to try
- Waited until the end-of-cycle delay before attempting to open the door
- Observed that the door catch/handle was not broken but would not push back into position
- Door-opening mechanism was exposed
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Tool for leverage
- Screwdriver

Hi Peter. To open the door you need to activate the same thing that the door latch is when you pull it. One of those plastic things will either pull or push against the spring tension to open the door. It may be that you need a tool in order to be able to do it because you no longer have the leverage that the door handle usually gives.

If you open the flap at the bottom right-hand side on the front and look toward the top there will be a slotted piece of hanging plastic cord. If you put a screwdriver into that and pull it down it should release the door.
Thanks Hawkeye66. That feature is usually very rare on washing machines because it involves more expensive door lock. It's very common on Miele but I've not seen it on cheap ones. It would be nice if they had it though as it is useful.
