Whirpool washing machine stops mid cycle
Hello everyone!
My Whirpool AWM 5043 – 400 washing machine randomly stops working mid cycle. If I manually then go and rotate the knob, the washing machine continues.
Here you can see the washing machine while stopped mid cycle:
If I rotate the knob towards B, the washing machine continues its program cycle.
If anyone could give me some insight, I would be more than helpful.
Thank you in advance!

Whirpool AWM 5043-400 stopping mid-cycle with water left in drum
- The problem
- Whirpool AWM 5043 – 400 washing machine was stopping randomly mid cycle. When it stopped, water remained in the drum. If the programme knob was manually advanced towards the spin/rinse area, the machine carried on and then drained through the hose.
- Likely cause
- The strongest diagnosis in the discussion was a draining problem, with the pump filter suggested as the first item to check. This was based on the machine stopping with water still in the drum and then draining once the programme was advanced manually.
- What fixed it
- Recommended action was to check and clean the pump filter and review the draining issue. The exact repair was not confirmed in the thread.
- Checks to try
- Observed that the machine stopped during the rinse/spin part of the cycle
- Checked that water was still in the drum when the machine stopped
- Confirmed that manually advancing the knob allowed the machine to continue and drain through the hose
- Pump filter was recommended to be checked

Hey there! Highly appreciate your reply!
Α is for : rinsing and prolonged wringing
B is for : prolonged wringing
I was wondering if one was pre wash, which is a short cycle that stops at the end. Letter A always used to be pre wash.
If it stops during rinses it usually has a problem with filling or draining. What does it do when it stops and does it have any water in the drum?
And what does it do when you move it on and it starts again?

When it stops it has water in the drum and if I move it on and starts again the water drains through the hose.
I’d suspect problems with draining. Check the pump filter.
