Hotpoint Aquarius Very Noisy

Hello,

I found this forum and am hoping that someone can help advise me what is wrong with, and how to fix a 12 year old hotpoint aquarius 1000.Yesterday we did 2 washes and noticed that the machine was very noisy when spinning which we put down to an unbalanced load, but today the same noise was there and when the load was taken out we noticed what appear to be small bits of black plastic which look as if they have broken off something. I assume they were part of some piece that is involved with the drum spinning, some sort of bearing. I would be most grateful if someone more knowledgeable could help me fix it. Thankyou, Mark Allen. A knocking noise isn't guaranteed to be a loose tub weight but it's one of the more common explanations. Tub weights didn't come loose too often on those Hotpoint's but it's still possible. Tub weights are big blocks of concrete or similar bolted to either the top or bottom of the tub or sometimes both to act as counterweights holding the tub down on spin. If loose you can often replicate the problem with the top off and washing machine disconnected from the mains! by shaking the tub vigorously from side to side. You should also be able to move it by hand or see a lot of fine concrete dust (if the weight is actually concrete).

Hello. thankyou for the advice. I have checked the bearings and all seems well, so I ran the machine without a load and all was ok, but then with a small load it started to "knock" when the spin speed increased which would seem to indicate that, according to your information, is down to a/the tub weight being loose. This machine has a metal tub ( it is 12 years old) I can't find a schematic or specific advice on checking the weight/ weights on this machine, SO......any further advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again, Mark.
