Washing Machine with shorter wash times?
Hi all we are in the process of looking to buy a new washer,we have at present a Hotpoint ultima 7kg (4-year old) and we are wanting something on similar lines as to wash cycles times and spin speed (1600) we also want if possible for the washer to be able to be programmed by the user and not the machine in regards to the spin speed temp and length of the cycle (30m-1hr).
Most makes we have looked at have ridiculous wash times. Up to 3hrs wash cycles and set max spin speeds for different wash cycles that can have the spin reduced, but not increased and some don't give any times.

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
New washing machine wanted with shorter wash times
- The problem
- The user wanted to replace a 4-year-old Hotpoint Ultima 7kg washing machine with a similar model offering 1600 spin, shorter programmes of about 30 minutes to 1 hour, and more user control over temperature, spin speed and cycle length. They had found many current machines have wash times up to 3 hours, fixed maximum spin speeds on some programmes, and sometimes no displayed programme times.
- Likely cause
- The accepted reply states that most modern washing machines now have long wash times. No appliance fault was being diagnosed.
- What fixed it
- No specific make or model was recommended in the discussion. The accepted answer only confirmed that long programme times are now common on most washing machines, so the exact purchasing solution was not documented.
