Hotpoint 9518 Wont Spin

Hello

I have a old hotpoint 9518P which won't turn the motor any more.

The timer turns and clicks, but the drum motor will not turn, the pump motor does work.

I have checked the motor brushes and they are not worn out yet, I replaced them about a year ago. the brush contacts on the inner motor coil look ok no visable damage.

I tested the resistance of the motor coils, approx outer 3ohm's inner 4 ohms (inc brushes).

I tested the connecting cable and is looks ok with the multimeter.

I tested the controller output 40v ac to the inter coil and 26v ac to the outer coil. The controller is a reverbed one this summer.

does any one know what is wrong here?

I don't want to spend £150 on a new motor when is the controler under warenty.

Thanks for looking.

You've checked as much as you can. The only thing left now is to guess at what part may need replacing, which I wouldn't advise doing. It's only what most engineers would do after checking all the things you list anyway except they mostly have access to the parts to try. You can't rule out the possibility of a rare broken connection or wire somewhere. I've even had them where the wire looks perfect but the copper wire inside is broken. As I say, after doing all those checks most engineers would just try a new pcb or motor and hope it fixes it.

A pcb can easily be over £100 and there's no guarantee it is the culprit. Even if it appears to be the most likely culprit I personally would not gamble that kind of money without knowing it is definitely the fault. Check out what Hotpoint would charge to fix it, they have fixed price repairs now, which may not be much more than the cost of the part.
