Miele W5780 No Time Remaining Display

Hi

I've just purchased a new Miele W5780

It has great reviews - but I'm disappointed to find it doesn't have a "time remaining" display - despite the Which review saying it has - as well as a number of sellers.

Is there something I've missed?

If not - why has such an expensive machine not got such a simple feature?

and is there an upgrade available?

Cheers

Stuart

Solution Summary

AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Miele W5780 appears not to have a time remaining display

The problem
Owner of a new Miele W5780 expected a time remaining display, based on reviews and seller information, but could not see one during use and asked whether it was missing, hidden by a setting, or upgradeable.
Likely cause
The strongest supported explanation is that some Miele models do not include a time remaining display as a built-in feature. A less certain suggestion was that the display may blank during standby and only reappear when a button is pressed.
What fixed it
Discussion suggested first checking whether the machine is entering standby during a wash and pressing a button to wake the display, then referring to the instruction manual for any standby setting. However, the thread also reported information from Miele that some models do not have this feature, so no upgrade or repair was confirmed.
Checks to try
  • Observed that no time remaining was shown during use
  • Suggested check whether the display is blank while the start light flashes green
  • Suggested pressing any button during a wash to see if the display wakes and shows time left
  • Suggested referring to the instruction manual for standby settings
  • Reported contact with Miele stating some models do not have this feature

It looks like a newer version of my W3740 which displays time remaining. I'd be surprised if it doesn't, although they are often annoyingly inaccurate. It should just display it during a wash.

it doesn't seem to do it - which seems like a major oversight in an £800 machine

I have a new W5740 which has a time left display, I'm confident yours should too, does the display show anything? The new Miele's have 'stand by' operation whilst in use to meet standards of energy consumption. Usually the start light flashes green whilst the display is blank, press any button and it should come back to life showing how much time is left. I'm fairly sure you can de activate this feature, refer to your instruction manual.

I found out from Miele that some of their models don't have this feature, which is a surprise. Even they seem to have to withhold features to persuade people to buy a more expensive model.
