This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
New Hotpoint washer would fill and click but not spin due to loose motor connection
- The problem
- A brand new Hotpoint washing machine was installed and would fill and start the cycle, with clicking noises, but would not spin even when empty or on the auto clean programme.
- Likely cause
- A loose connection to the motor, as identified by the manufacturer's engineer.
- What fixed it
- The attending engineer reconnected the loose motor connection. After this, the machine spun normally. The owner chose to keep the appliance rather than request a replacement.
- Checks to try
- Machine filled and started the cycle
- Clicking was heard during operation
- Machine would not spin even when empty
- Machine was also tried on auto clean
- Manufacturer's engineer inspected the machine and found a loose motor connection
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

If it's a brand new machine nothing can be worn out, so unless you can see the belt off for some reason you'd need to let them look at it. Installation faults are the main cause of immediate washing machine faults but they are always based around not taking in water or not emptying rather than not spinning.
If by any chance you've only tried it with small loads just check out this article in case -

Guy from indesit was out today. He said it was just a Loose connection to the motor.. He reconnected it and it spinning fine.
I'm in two minds on wether to return it for a new one or take the repair
What do you think?
Cheers
I wouldn't reject an appliance for such a minor issue. It's a lot of hassle for everyone concerned including yourself. They may well be able to refuse on the grounds it is disproportionately expensive to replace it for such a minor fault (which the Sale of goods Act allows). If on the other hand it fails again, I would be inclined to reject it then.
