Zanussi Zwg 1140M Door Won't Open !

Hi all this is my first post so please be gentle.

My Zanussi washing machine tripped the MCB half way through a cycle. I manually drained water out and upon closer inspection discovered that a couple of wires down towards pump had worn through sleeve( poor build quality) . Resulting in earthing out on part of the metal casing. Ive re insulated wire and the washing machine works, but the door will not open !

Im guessing that the interlock has been damaged by the shorting out.

Any way of removing the interlock without damage on this model ?

Will a new interlock fix this issue ?

Any help or experience would be appreciated ?

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Zanussi ZWG 1140M door remained locked after wiring short

The problem
A Zanussi ZWG 1140M washing machine tripped the MCB part way through a cycle. The owner found damaged wiring near the pump that had worn through and earthed on the metal casing. After re-insulating the wires, the machine ran again but the door would not open, and the door lock indicator stayed on.
Likely cause
The strongest suggested cause in the discussion is a jammed or failed door interlock/door lock following the shorting incident, but this was not independently confirmed.
What fixed it
The accepted reply referred the owner to guidance for a jammed washing machine door. No specific repair steps, part replacement, or confirmed fix were documented in the thread. The exact repair was not confirmed.
Checks to try
  • MCB had tripped during the cycle
  • Water was manually drained
  • Damaged wires near the pump were found with worn insulation
  • Wires were re-insulated
  • Machine operated afterwards
  • Door lock light remained on

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.
