Hotpoint Wdd960 Ultima - No Heat

Hello all,

We have the above machine - fault is there is no heat generated during a wash. I've read the article under common problems, and don't think it's relevant in this instance.

There is almost certainly no heat generated during a wash cycle. Normally, there is some perceptible warmth to the clothing as it is removed from the machine. Upon noticing this hadn't happened today , I put some towels in the machine and kept regularly checking the outlet pipe - no warm water left the machine during the wash cycle.

No fault codes are produced.

Any clues what I'm looking for? Heating element, PCB or thermistor failure? I've never had to open the machine, but am fairly technically competent and have a couple of multimeters, a fair set of tools, etc.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Rich

Hi Rich, the article on not heating covers everything I can think of, including some anomalies such as the case linked to at the bottom where someone discovered the fault was caused by a faulty connection on the sensor. If the heater is faulty it should be open circuit or have very high resistance with a multi meter.

Yes that reading sounds about right. If it's working after fiddling about I'd suspect a faulty connection somewhere.

Well, I don't think it's the element. Measures 31.1 ohms, think it should be much higher than that if it had failed. Very easy to get at for future reference - 2 screws on the back of the machine holding a small plastic cover. The element is right at the bottom of the machine.

Will do some more reading and investigating.

Edit - is currently heating. Bloody thing! :-)

Thank you, Andy. I shall come back with my findings when I get a chance to investigate. :-)
