Belt Keeps Coming Off -Hoover Top Loading Machine

I bought a 6kg Hoover Top Loading Washing Machine in Tenerife for a holiday rental apartment that I own there.

I have had the machine since January 2014 and the belt has come off 4 times.

The shop that I bought it from says that it is being overloaded on the rapid cycle and that you can only put a 1.5-2kg in on this cycle,

They claim that this overloading is causing the belt to come off and it is not their problem.

This does not make any sense to me,even if people are putting in a full load on the rapid cycle , all that I would expect to happen would be the clothes would not come out clean.

I would be grateful for any thoughts, I had a Top Loading Whirlpool machine for 9 years in the same apartment and never had any problems.

I've not worked on top loading washing machines for many years as we rarely use them in the UK. I have this topic on what causes the belt to come off on front loaders, which might help, but top loaders are quite different in many ways - Belt Keeps Coming Off

However, fundamentally they are the same in that a belt fits over the motor and a drum pulley so some of the advice may be useful.

Are you experiencing the belt coming off only when you use the rapid cycle? That's what I would expect if they are right about overloading. If it comes off on any wash cycle I can't see how it could be related as they say. Plus, a rapid cycle is usually to do a very quick wash so the weight restriction is likely to be to reduce the amount of laundry to increase wash efficiency on a rapid cycle. There's nothing different about a rapid cycle or any other cycle that could possibly cause the belt to come off only on that cycle. If it doesn't come off when filled with far more weight such as towels or sheets ask them how it's possible for the belt to stay on when full of sheets or towels but come off on just one cycle. Ask them how it's possible that this cycle throws the belt off specifically.
