Amana Washer Repair

Hi, I have a top load Amana washing machine. Yesterday I replaced the drive belt as well as the pump. After installing everything, I ran it to see if it worked and water spewed out of the pump. I went and got another pump and everything seemed to work. Today my daughter ran 4-5 loads of laundry through it and on the last load it began making a load motor type sound. She said it had a mechanical like smell. The washer appeared to be done but when she opened it, the washer had not drained. She tried to restart it and all it did was spin. It did not drain but there does appear to be a puddle on the floor in the rear of the washer. What could possibly be wrong with it now? Thank you

I've never really worked on top loading washing machines. We don't have many in the UK. The first thing I would check is there is nothing stuck inside the pump.

Obstructions like coins usually damage the pump, they can get sucked and and tossed back out again back into the hose leading into it. Most sump hoses leading to the pump should have a coin trap, which is somewhere they fall into and usually stay.

Hi, thank you for your reply. There wasn't anything caught in the pump. The ring inside the pump was cracked. Is this something our washer would cause or was it possibly a bad pump? There was some sort of black stuff all over the pump as well?
