Hoover Wdm120 Leaking Out Of Overflow Pipe
Hope you can help. When my washing machine is filling, water is pouring out of the overflow pipe at the back. I called Hoover for technical advice and they said it must be a blockage and that I can't repair it myself so to call GIAS. Can you help? Should I unplug the washer and take the back off to see if I can see a blockage? The powder & conditioner drawer regularly gets blocked. Could it be a build up of this, or of lint (as there's no filter?) I have pulled out and checked the "filter" behind the kickplate and can't find anything there. Thanks for your help,

It sounds like it could be overfilling. On this range of washing machine, it could be a hole in the pressure tubing caused by a daft design.
Watch the washing machine from the front (with no clothes inside) and watch the level of the water behind the door glass. It should never go much above the lip of the drum on these washing machines. If it reaches halfway up the glass, it's overfilling. (on older washing machines it was normal for water levels to go halfway up the glass)
If the water gets to the top of the glass it's not far off pouring out of the back. Before you start looking at the pressure system you need to establish if it is in fact overfilling. There are other causes for water coming out of the back such as the motor surging on wash (doing a spin) and throwing water out, or as uou mentioned, a blockage in the soap dispenser drawer.

The water level seems a little high, but clearly no where near high enough to come out of the back. If water is coming into the washing machine when the water comes out of the back, but the drum isn't surging, and the water level is only a third of the way up the glass then it might be a blockage in the soap dispenser or the hose leading from the soap dispenser down into the tub.
The only explanation other than surging and overfilling is that the water is coming into the washing machine at a fast rate, but it can't get down the dispenser hose into the tub fast enough, so it's backing up.
Try putting it on a fill and as soon as water comes out the back turn it off and pull the soap dispenser drawer out to see if there is a back up of water. Check for blockages. There could be a blockage in the hose leading from the bottom of the soap dispenser into the tub. Especially if you've used tablets. Some tablets are only supposed to go inside the tub and can block the dispenser hose if put into the drawer. Sometimes it's just that poor hot water pressure fails to disolve the tablets well.
The hose may be tricky to get to, but try squeezing it to see if you can feel anything.

Thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate your help here! The washing machine usually fills to about a third of the way up the door glass, so I don't know if the problem is over filling or not. If this is the problem, what can I do?
I didn't hear the motor surge at all; the washing machine was still filling when I realised the water was pouring out of the overflow. I've taken the top and back off, but can't see a round pressure switch described on the other postings. The model is WDM120 01 if this is of any use?
Any ideas what to try now? (Thanks again for this! - Gias told me earliest appointment is Tuesday afternoon)
