Hoover Vhd Sensor Dry
My Hoover washing machine is making an awful rumble noise whilst spinning and there is up and down play in the drum. I'm assuming bearings and possibly shaft.
I have a 5 year guarantee which is still in date, (2.5 years old) and am told by Candy the call out charge is £119 for them to fix. If they determine that they 'can't' fix it the fee is non refundable.
I have read about sealed drums and that on some machines the whole thing needs to be replaced etc. My question is 'is it generally possible to fix the bearing problem on these machines?'
I obviously don't want to call them out under the parts guarantee if they tell me sorry it can't be fixed.
I'm a fairly competent DIYer and fix my own cars etc. Is it a job I could do? If the bearings cost £20 or so I might aswell do it myself if they are easy in/out.
thanks all

They are often designed so you can't replace the bearings. Even if you could somehow get the bearings out and find some equivalent ones you need the seal that protects them. If they don;t sell that it is pointless fitting new ones.
I can't imagine any reason why they could not fix it at 2.5 years old. The idea that any manufacturer can't fix one of their own washing machines at 2.5 years old is unacceptable. If by any chance they said they couldn't then you would have a strong case against whoever sold it to you under the sale of goods act as it clearly won't have lasted a reasonable time or been durable or repairable enough.
