I have the above machine and the drum bearings are definitely shot! I have searched and searched for bearings for this model but all I'm getting back is a complete drum and tub? Is this the case?

Please help as the parts are quite expensive!

Many thanks!

Paul.

Solution Summary

AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Hotpoint WML730P UK drum bearings not available separately

The problem
The washing machine’s drum bearings were reported as worn out. The owner could only find listings for a complete drum and tub assembly rather than individual bearings and asked if that was correct.
Likely cause
The accepted reply says this model follows the common modern design where drum bearings are not supplied as separate replaceable parts. Repair would require a complete rear tub, or more commonly a complete outer tub and drum assembly.
What fixed it
The accepted advice was that separate bearing replacement is not available for this type of machine. The practical repair route is replacement of the complete relevant tub/drum assembly, but this was described as often beyond economical repair. No completed repair was confirmed in the discussion.
Checks to try
  • Owner had searched for replacement bearings and only found complete drum/tub assemblies.
Parts or tools mentioned
  • complete rear tub
  • complete outer tub and drum

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Sadly it's the current trend. Most modern washing machines can't have drum bearings replaced, and need either a complete rear tub, or more commonly now a complete outer tub and drum. This effectively makes most beyond economical repair. It's the throwaway washing machine problem I've been moaning about for the last 16 years and it's getting worse each year. If not stopped we are literally going to end up with washing machines that are unrepairable when most of their faults develop, even some relatively minor ones.
