Clothes With Black Like Track Marks On Them After A Wash - Lg Directdrive 9Kg Inverter
Hello, Today after 3 washes my washing is coming out of a wash with black track marks on it. I have run special machine clean program with soda crystals. I have also cleared the filter out (at the bottom of machine). I am now stuck for ideas. The machine is 3/4 years old and unusable. I have also wiped around the rubber seal. I read somewhere it could be the bearings but it's not an old machine?

Black marks on washing traced to item trapped behind drum on LG Direct Drive 9kg
- The problem
- Clothes were coming out of the wash with black track-like marks after several washes on an LG Directdrive 9Kg Inverter washing machine. The machine had also started making a noise during spin. The owner had already run a machine-clean programme with soda crystals, cleaned the bottom filter and wiped around the door seal, without resolving it.
- Likely cause
- A trapped old sock behind the drum was found by the repairman and is the confirmed cause linked to the black marks and spin noise. Drum bearings were considered because of the noise, but this was not confirmed and the bearings were reported to be fine.
- What fixed it
- A repairman inspected the machine and removed an old sock lodged behind the drum. After this, the machine was reported to be working normally again.
- Checks to try
- Ran the machine clean programme with soda crystals
- Cleared the bottom filter
- Wiped around the rubber door seal
- Observed noise during spin
- Repairman inspection found an old sock lodged behind the drum
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Soda crystals
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Unfortunately it's not uncommon for drum bearings to go on 3 year old washing machines these days. If it was the bearings though I'd expect it to be rumbling on spin. Any chance of uploading a photo? (click More Reply Options)

Thank you yes it did start to make a noise during spin. The repairman came out and found an old sock lodged behind the drum! Not sure how it got there but the machine is now fine! Im guessing this is where the black was coming from, the bearings were fine.
Thanks for the update. Yes drum bearing noise is always a rumble and quite unique
