can anybody identify this part in the attached file for me please and could this part have something to do with the water not heating up. thank you

Thats a pressure switch. It could have something to do with the heating. What makes you feel it's faulty? it's usually the other end of the hose which gets built up with crud. If it is faulty, don't forget to clean out the other end attached to the drum.
