The above machine has started banging whilst on 1200rpm spin it sounds like a tractor on tick over! The drum does appears to be out of balance when spinning. Bearings seem ok. Took lid off to see if concrete block was loose, but was ok. Checked the bolts. Went underneath to see if dampers loose, they look ok but was difficult to try and move them as the drum had rested on the back on the machine as I had it tip backwards at 45 degrees.

thanks for any help

Check the drum weights, one or more may be loose. Don't use the machine until fixed or it will become fatally damaged.

No drum weights loose. But as previously stated, there is/appears to be play in the drum shaft as I can move the drum up and down at the front whilst holding the door seal still. It does not appear to be as noisy at the moment. It may have been an unbalanced load the has extenuated the movement of the drum causing the banging.

Hi, there's usually a concrete drum weight on the front of the drum behind the door seal, and sometimes underneath the drum too. With a loose drum weight you should be able to reproduce the noise by disconnecting the washer and taking the top off and then shaking the drum around firmly. The inner drum shouldn't have much up and down play in it on the shaft. Worn drum bearings should rumble when the drum is spun by hand and sound a bit like this - what do worn drum bearings sound like? It could be one of the drum spider arms broken or cracked, you should be able to lift the drum at the point where one of the plastic drum lifters is if that's the case.

Hi thanks for the reply. I have checked the drum weight on top on the drum, can not see any others. On doing further investigation the drum moves when lifted at the front near the door seal which apparently is worn bearings. It does not however make a grinding noise when the drum is rotated by hand. It 8 years old so ordered a new one, not worth the hassle of repairing or paying for an engineer to do the work

Here is the link to a machine making the same noise!
