Stacking Washers And Dryers
Do you have any advice about stacking a washer and dryer? Should one do it at all? What are the issues involved and what sort of stacking kit is best? I can't seem to get a straight answer from salesmen on this subject and would be very grateful for any advice you could offer.
Many thanks.

A tumble dryer should be stacked on top of a washing machine using a proper stacking kit for two reasons. First, if anyone pulled on the open tumble dryer door they could bring the dryer down on them, and second, if the washing machine gets a badly balanced load, or develops a specific fault causing loss of speed control, the tumble dryer could literally be thrown off the washing machine.
A stacking kit is usually a plastic frame which fits on top of the washing machine. The tumble dryer is held inside this frame and also secured with a bracket to the washing machine. Stacking kits aren't easily available because there's very little demand for them. The shop that you buy your appliance from may be able to order one but it's unlikely they will stock them.
There are universal stacking kits available but how good they are I don't know. The best place to get a stacking kit is probably from the manufacturer of your washing machine and dryer as they are designed to fit properly.
