Grinding sound when the machine is in spin

I'm maintenance Engineer but haven't worked on washing machines, thought i would get expert advice before taking the machine apart.

When the machine goes in to spin cycle, there is a dull grinding sort of sound, it progressively gets louder the faster the drum spins. I have assumed this to be bearings, but any spares websites i go on don't offer bearings, any other ideas what it could be? If not I'm going to take it apart and find the problem, but would be easier if pointed in the right direction.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Hello there. If the bearings are worn or faulty I would not get involved. Most modern washing machines have the bearings pre-fitted inside a sealed tub, so repairing is a very big job and pretty expensive. However drum bearings tend to produce a rumble - What do noisy drum bearings sound like?
