LG Machine Problem
Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone could help me. I have a LG WM14311FD washing machine. It's rather old (2006) but it only gets used in the summer because we have been living in Qatar for the last ten years. I recently got an error code OE and it was making a grinding noise + not draining/spinning so I opened it up and the drain pump impeller had come off. I replaced it after looking at some videos but now when it gets to drain it stops and doesn't do anything, although the time left goes down. Also, I am not getting an error code this time. I reopened it and checked everything but could find anything wrong. What could be problem? Thanks in advance.

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
LG WM14311FD OE fault with grinding noise and no drain after pump issue
- The problem
- LG WM14311FD washing machine originally showed OE, made a grinding noise and would not drain or spin. On inspection the drain pump impeller had come off. After fitting a complete replacement for that pump, the machine then stopped at the drain stage with the time counting down, and no new error code was reported.
- Likely cause
- The thread supports a drain system fault. The accepted reply states that if an impeller has come off it is usually broken and the pump should be replaced complete. A later reply says that if it still is not draining, the drain path should be checked for blockage; if it is draining but still showing OE, a blocked pressure system is possible. The second pump was identified as the recirculation pump and was not considered likely to stop normal draining.
- What fixed it
- Replace the complete drain pump rather than attempting to reuse or refit a detached impeller. If the machine still does not drain afterwards, check the drain path for blockages. If draining is actually normal but OE remains, the pressure system may be blocked. The exact final repair was not confirmed in the discussion.
- Checks to try
- Observed OE fault code
- Grinding noise reported
- Machine not draining or spinning
- Drain pump impeller found detached
- Complete replacement of one pump carried out
- Second pump noted to make slight noise but turn intact
- Advice given to check for drain blockage
- Advice given that a blocked pressure system is possible if OE remains despite draining
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Complete drain pump
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hello there. In my experience if the impeller has come off it is usually broken and a new pump is required. For decades a pump impeller used to be screwed on but I haven't known a pump impeller that wasn't pressed into the shaft for decades. Do you mean you bought a new impeller or refitted the old impeller? Pump impellers are not usually available as spares either these days. Only the new pump complete?

Thanks for the reply. I bought a complete pump. There are two pumps on my unit and I only replaced the one with the broken impeller. The other pump is also making a slight noise but appears intact and turning. Could this be the problem?
Assuming you replaced the drain pump at the bottom, the other pump should be a recirculating pump. If it stopped working the machine should continue working ok but with laundry not getting as wet.
If it still isn’t draining check everything in this article washing machine wont pump water out
If it is draining ok but still giving the OE error it may be a blocked pressure system
