Hello, My washing machine makes a thudding noise when it's finished spinning. Please see attached video. This has happened twice, that I know of. The cycle appeared to have finished, the display says 'END'. The machine made this sound at irregular intervals of a few seconds. The drum does not move during the thudding. Looking at the light indicators, it does seem that the programme is complete by the time this noise starts. The washing appears to be washed, rinsed and spun dry. When I turn the machine off, on the programme dial, the noise stops and the door click releases. What's happening? Grateful for any suggestions.

That sounds more like somebody banging on a cupboard door than a washing machine. Never heard such a sound. Neither can I conceive of any washing machine part that could be causing it. As with any noise coming from an appliance the only way to troubleshoot it is to pull it out, take off the back panel and the lid. Then allow the noise to occur and locate exactly where it's coming from with the ears. Our ears are normally quite good at pinpointing a sound.

I have too comprehensive articles covering troubleshooting a noisy washing machine | More causes of noisy washing machine

It's a great sound. Very percussive. I might sample it and use it in some of my music as I'm a musician . Let me know if you get to the bottom of it. I honestly can't imagine anything that could be casing such a noise on a washing machine.

Hi Andy,

It is a strange sound, I know! I promise you it's not a slamming door, as soon as I turn the machine off the noise stops. The sound comes from the back of the machine. I have pulled the machine out and looked at the back, the water in and out pipes look fine, no kinks. Taking the back and top panels off is not something I'm keen on doing myself, but might give it a go, mainly because this problem is intermittent. If I arrange an engineer to visit the machine may not perform the thumping sound while the engineer's here. If I'm able to video this problem, perhaps showing some part moving and making this sound, I can show this to an engineer.

Apart from that, the machine seems the be working well!
