Hoover Ecologic drains but leaves clothes very wet and will not fast spin
- The problem
- A Hoover Ecologic washing machine was pumping water out, but the clothes were still sopping wet. The original poster later confirmed the machine was not spinning properly.
- Likely cause
- The accepted reply said a blocked pressure chamber on the sump hose was a likely cause. The explanation given was that trapped air in the pressure tube can keep the pressure switch activated and prevent a fast spin. However, the thread also states the fault could be elsewhere, so this was a diagnosis rather than a confirmed repair.
- What fixed it
- Recommended action was to locate the pressure chamber by following the plastic tube from the pressure switch, then remove the sump hose and clean the pressure chamber bottle and associated hosework if blocked. A diagnostic check suggested was to unplug the machine, remove the tube from the bottom of the pressure switch, and listen for a click; if it then spins on a spin-only programme without adding water, that would support a pressure chamber blockage. No completed repair or final fix was confirmed by the original poster.
- Checks to try
- Filter checked and reported as alright
- Machine drains water out
- Machine does not spin properly
- Suggested check: unplug machine and remove pressure tube from bottom of pressure switch to listen for a click
- Suggested check: try a spin-only programme without adding water after refitting the tube
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Pressure chamber bottle
- Pressure switch
- Plastic pressure tube
- Sump hose
Safety: Disconnect from mains before inspecting the pressure switch tube or pressure chamber. Do not run a wash or rinse with the pressure tube disconnected because the machine may overfill and flood. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

On the Hoover Ecologic it should be attached to the sump hose. On earlier Hoover washing machines it was attached to the backplate. If in doubt, disconnect from mains! Then follow the plastic tube from the pressure switch to the pressure chamber bottle. To clean it you need to remove the sump hose and clean everything out - particularly the plastic bottle. When re-fitting, always put it on spin first (before putting any water in) as I've had air locks which cause overfilling! Check carefully for overfilling the first time you use (or test) the machine after disturbing the pressure system as any air leak in the tubing connections will cause overfilling and flooding.
If the pressure chamber is blocked, it can trap air in the tube which switches the pressure switch on and off. This would cause the washing machine to not do a fast spin. To check for this, you can unplug the machine, then carefully pull the tube off of the bottom of the pressure switch. If when doing this you hear a distinctive click, this is the pressure switch turning off as the air pressure is released and you've found a fault. If not, then the fault maybe elsewhere, or the pressure could have slowly leaked out over several hours. If the latter is the case you can put the tube back on and without putting any more water in (which would switch the pressure switch back on) try it on a spin only programme. If it now spins, maybe the pressure chamber is blocked after all.
NOTE: If the washing machine has not pumped the water out properly, then removing the pressure tube from the pressure switch would also allow a spin. Don't get the 2 different faults mixed up.

It works alright but it is not spinning water is coming out but the clothes are still very wet. I don't know anything about washing machines could you please tell me what to do in steps?
There should be enough instructions in my last post to be able to identify the pressure switch, and the pressure chamber. The pressure chamber just needs cleaning out (if it is causing your fault) If you aren't sure, you really should call someone in to look at it. Pressure chamber blockages are caused by gunge in the plastic bottle. Your fault could also be caused by other things though - this is just one of the likely causes. Before going any further, try the tip I mentioned about taking the tube off of the bottom of the pressure switch. If it then spins OK then there's probably a blockage of gunge in the pressure chamber bottle.
You mustn't put it on a wash or rinse though with that tube disconnected or the washing machine will overfill and flood.
NOTE: A blocked pressure chamber was very common on older washing machines. Recent washing machines aren't usually affected quite as much. Many pressure systems have been modified. They should also give an error code if a fault occurs rather than just stop, or stick mid-cycle - Washing machine stops with an error code
