Hoover Optima Making Strange Noise When Pumping

Hi, I have a Hoover Optima OPH 616 washing machine since January this year as a replacement from an appliance policy. Just tonight whilst begining to start a rince cycle, the machine made noises almost as if a sparkler (firework) was lit...... that it the only best description I could give. I am baffled as to what it is relating to. I don't think it is the bearings. I know I can contact Domestic & General but I really want to have some idea as to what it could be. Has anyone else had this type of noise. Thank you in advance.

Noises are notoriously difficult to accurately convey to others so it could be anything, but if by any chance it's electrical sparking somewhere I would stop using it and get the engineer. Please let us know what it turns out to be.

Hi Andy,

Problem solved, it was a hair bobble that belonged to my daughter, the metal section on the bobble was making the noise. I told my daughter (who is 26 !!!) she said 'mum I haven't used those bobbles in ages... so I said be sure to check your pockets before you put your clothes in the machine... the engineer took out the removable filter and it was there. I wasn't charged as I have a Domestic and General service policy.

Thank you for your help with this, Cheers.

In that case the noise could be something stuck in the pump so it's worth having a look before they come as they'll likely charge you if it is. How do I clean my pump filter - where is the pump filter? It could be a faulty pump but 99 times out of a hundred a noisy pump is caused by an obstruction getting inside. If it's a small bit of plastic it may be difficult to find so don't spend too much time and effort but it's worth taking the filter out and checking for an obstruction.

Hi Andy, thank you for your reply. I have requested an engineer from Hoover who can only get to me on Monday 1st October. I last used it this Saturday and sat by it on it's 59 min wash, it is only making this noise when it drains the water then my daughter put it on in the evening and I called her to hear the noise and again only when it drains the water.

Will let you know what the engineer says. Cheers, Sue
