Hi folks,

I have read through this site so I apologise if this is answered somewhere and I have missed it.

I have a Hoover DYN7164D1X. I am used to seeing error codes and my problem is not an error code issue.

Instead of showing the selected programme/ temp/ etc, my display flashes a seemingly random (but consistent) set of lights, and two option buttons illuminate as well.

I have slam door reset and this sometimes results in the normal display alternating with the random one. In the few seconds the normal data is displayed you can hear the machine trying to work (solenoid fill click) but then it stops when the random display shows.

From what I have read so far I am thinking maybe the PCB needs replacing. I can send a picture of the display if that might help.

Thanks, in anticipation. Ralph

Hi. The lights could be an error code if the washing machine doesn’t display text on the control panel.

Hi. I'm saying it's beyond DIY repair unless you know how to test individual components on pcbs, which most appliance engineers don't - we are't taught to repair the pcbs, only to replace them. But having said that to pay an engineer to fit one would probably be halfway to a new one.

Thanks Andy,

In summary I think you are hinting that it is beyond sensible economic repair.

I could take a punt on the PCB but if that doesn’t work I’m back to square one and £50 lighter.

Appreciate the comments, but I guess she gets to buy a new machine.

We might take extended warranty on the new one ☹️

It would seem to be definitely an error with the electronics in some way. It could be a power issue or related to the PCB, but equally could be a fault on the control panel board itself. Or it could be a connection problem between the two. I always advise against speculatively replacing expensive PCBs, especially the main one. I've lost count of how many people have fitted one speculatively and found it did not cure the fault. It may even be something extremely simple like a faulty diode but without electronics knowledge and testing equipment it's impossible to know.

The machine displays error codes (such as E03) in the normal manner on the left of the control panel as you look at it.

As I said, this not an error code. I managed to attach a photo to my first post.

The machine flashes between the normal display for the programme selected and the pictured display (which appears to be random).
