If it only happens on Cotton 40° and the other programmes run normally, that usually points to a fault being triggered at a particular stage of that programme rather than a complete machine failure. It could be heating-related, water level related, or a programme/control issue.

5. **Try a reset / compare similar cycles** Switch off, leave a few minutes, then retry. Also test another 40° wash if available. If only Cotton 40° fails repeatedly, the programme selector/control module may be at fault.
