Hi,

My Bosch WVG30461GB washer dryer has stopped working, it goes through the wash cycle and then at a certain point just stops with E36 -10 flashing.

I can't find any information on this error, can anyone advise?

Thank you.

Hi,

On Bosch washer-dryers, an E36 variant often points towards a water level / drain system issue, but the “-10” part isn’t something I’d want to guess at without Bosch service data. The best approach is to check the common causes first and narrow it down.

1. Isolate the appliance from the mains before removing any covers or checking internal parts.

2. Check if there is water left in the drum when it stops. - If yes, suspect a draining problem. - If no, it may be a pressure sensing or control issue.

3. Clean the pump filter. - Open the flap at the bottom, be ready for water, and remove any debris such as lint, coins, hair grips, etc. - Check the pump impeller behind the filter turns freely and isn’t jammed.

4. Check the drain hose and sink standpipe. - Make sure the hose isn’t kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe. - Check for blockages where it joins the plumbing.

5. Run a drain/spin programme. - Listen for the drain pump. If it hums but does not pump, the pump may be blocked or failing. - If it is completely silent, there could be a pump, wiring, or control fault.

6. If the machine drains properly, the fault could be with the pressure chamber, pressure switch/sensor, or associated hose being partially blocked with residue.

If the basic drain checks don’t reveal anything, this is likely one for a qualified engineer, especially for live electrical testing or control board diagnosis. If you can say whether water is left inside and whether the pump runs, that would help narrow it down.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
