Our Bosch Exxcel 1600 gives error code F04.

We check the pump - nothing blocking impeller.

Try again - F04. We check pump and outlet are clear.

Try again - F04.

Is there a cheat we can use to get a few more months use out of the five or six year old machine?

AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Bosch Exxcel WFX3267GB showing F04

The problem
A Bosch Exxcel 1600 washing machine, model WFX3267GB, repeatedly displayed fault code F04. The owner had already checked the drain pump, impeller and outlet and found no blockage, but the fault remained.
Likely cause
The strongest diagnosis in the discussion is a probable motor-related fault for F04 on this Bosch range, although this was stated with some uncertainty because model-specific information for the WFX range was not available.
What fixed it
Recommended action was to check the motor connections and inspect the carbon brushes. If these checks do not identify the problem, further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer. No successful repair was confirmed in the thread.
Checks to try
  • Drain pump checked
  • Pump impeller checked for blockage
  • Outlet checked and found clear
  • Suggested check of motor connections
  • Suggested check of carbon brushes
Parts or tools mentioned
  • Carbon brushes

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

There are lots of different error codes for different models. What is the proper model number?

I don't have the WFX range The only Bosch F04 error codes I have say "motor fault". It's possible this isn't relevant to your model but generally they often keep the same codes from machine to machine but definitely not always. The only thing I can suggest is to check the motor for connections faults and check the carbon brushes or get an engineer.
