Washer Motor Starts Then Stops Straight Away

ive never attempted to do diy washer maintenance before, but have told myself that im going to do it.

When I start the machine off, the drum spins very briefly then cts out almost instantly. Ive been told this may be something to do with the brushes. Greatfull for any help.
