AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Gorenje washing machine noisy during drain, likely normal pump-air noise

The problem
A new Gorenje washing machine was reported to make a strange noise while draining water. The concern was whether this indicated a fault or was normal operation.
Likely cause
The accepted reply says the noise is most likely the drain pump pumping air once the water has been emptied, which is described as a common sound on modern washing machines. A noisier pump bearing was mentioned only as a possibility if the same noise occurs while it is still pumping water.
What fixed it
No repair was confirmed. The strongest supported advice was that if the noise only happens once the water has gone, it is likely normal and nothing needs doing. If the same noise also occurs while pumping water, the pump may be noisier than normal, but the exact repair was not confirmed.
Checks to try
  • Technician had already checked the machine and said it was normal
  • Compare whether the noise happens only after the water has drained away or also while water is still being pumped out

Hi. It does sound noisy, but it is hard to tell on a recording, as most recording equipment has automatic level control that makes things sound louder. Essentially, the noise is the sound of the pump pumping air and is pretty much the standard noise of a modern washing machine pump when it is pumping air, albeit maybe louder than some and obviously louder than your previous one.

If it makes the exact same noise with its pumping water then possibly the bearings in the pump are noisy, but if it just makes that noise once all the water has gone it may be normal.

Unfortunately, modern washing machine pumps are much noisier than they need to be, and far noisier than they used to be in the past. To be honest if an engineer has checked it out and said it is normal it probably is. It's just a shame that they are so noisy these days.
